I have been tagged... again

Rachel tagged me so I guess I should do it and Jeanette pointed out to me on Sunday that I have posted anything new, so I guess I should. I am supposed to post rules but most everyone I know has been tagged, so you know the rules. Just post 6 interesting things about yourself.

1. I once drove 9 hours, through 2 blizzards, just to have in-n-out. When I was in college at Utah State, my roommate, Amanda and I, were really craving in-n-out. The closest one was in Las Vegas and that was about 7 hours from Logan. However, because it was snowing pretty hard, it took a little longer. Oh, and we left Logan at like 8:00 pm and arrived in Mesquite at 3 in the morning because we were so tired. But seriously, it was so extremely fun. We stayed in Vegas that saturday night and drove back to Logan on Sunday, so we could go to school on Monday. So much fun!!!

2. I am really OCD when it comes to spelling and grammar. Now, I know I am an English teacher and I make writing mistakes all the time, most of which are typoes. However, when I read other people's blogs or comments on myspace and they have spelling or grammar errors, I want to leave a comment asking them to fix the errors. Now if it looks like it was a typo, it doesn't really bother me but when I can tell it was accidentally spelled wrong and they didn't use spell check, it really irks me. I guess that sounds snobby of me but I just can't help it. So far, I haven't corrected anyone's blog because I know people would be offended. And if I have any errors in this blog, feel free to correct me.

3. I know all the words to the rap song, "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-lot and I am really proud of that!

4. I don't know if I should admit this, but I kissed more boys in my life than 3 of my roommates combined. Not that I have kissed a lot of boys, okay maybe a few but kissing is fun. Now I just kiss one man. I also told my mia maids that it is okay to kiss on the first date. Luckily, I have not been released from my calling...yet!!! I just told them not to tell their parents!! I also told them it was okay, as long as that was all they did on the rest of their dates until they got married. I think I covered my tracks pretty well.

5. I missed 48 days in my senior English class and still passed the class with a B. I never went to school my senior year but still managed to graduate with a 3.4. Now I teach seniors and I love to catch all the kids in my own class that try to pull the same things I did. Unfortunately for them, they can't miss 48 days and still pass. School rules these days are much different from when I was in school.

6. I am scared of heights. Not everything that is high scares me but I will list the things that scare me. I hate: going up mountain roads, ladders, Supreme Scream at Knott's Berry Farm (I can't believe I actually did it), and really high balconies. I would say sky diving and bungee jumping but I have never done that, nor do I ever plan to.

Okay, I am done. Now I am going to tag: Jeanette, Allison, Julie, Shawna and Sarah (I know you have done it before, but I like hearing random things).

Things that have made me laugh, cry and want to pull my hair out!!!

I know it has been a while since I posted but seriously, I can't even begin to describe how busy life has been. Here are some of the things that have made me cry, want to pull my hair out and laugh.

1. My messy house makes me want to cry and pull my hair out. I realize that a house doesn't clean itself but it would be really nice if someone invented on that did! Trying to work 2 jobs, have a husband in school and a 2 year old really doesn't leave much time to clean a house. I try really hard and Sal helps out, when he doesn't have his nose in a book, but my house doesn't stay clean. I guess I should be happy that my house doesn't look like this! This is NOT my house!

2. This is what I feel like when I come home from work. I don't know how many of you know what it is like to work with 160 15-18year olds all day long but it can really take a toll on a person. I feel sometimes like Michelle Pfifer in the movie, "Dangerous Minds." Those are some of my students. I like most of them but sometimes I feel like if some of them never came to school again, I wouldn't really care. I know that is bad to say but I am just in a funk. I also work an online job and that is stressful as well, considering I just took over the position of department chair. I think I am losing my mind! I guess the Lord thinks I can handle all this!

3. I am ready for Sal to graduate! Does it ever end? I have to look at the positive! Only one more year. I swear the closer he gets to graduating, the more stressed out I get and I am not even the one in college. I can't even imagine what he is going through.

4. And after all the stresses, hair pulling, screaming and crying, I get to come home to them. I swear, they both always make me feel so much better! Even when my son is dumping all the cheezit's on the ground or telling me no, he'll do something so cute, that I forget about all the bad things and my heart will just melt to hear him sing along to Plaza Sesamo (spanish Sesame Street) or come up to me and tell me "I U" (I love you). And Sal will come up and rub my back or cook dinner when I have had a bad day, even though he might have a ton of homework. I really am blessed in life.

What makes you feel better after a bad day or week or month??

Family Pictures

Seriously, Sarah did such a good job on our family pictures, it was hard to pick which ones we would include on our Christmas card. Here are just a few of the 166 pictures she took. I don't know what we are laughing at but I love this picture! This is by far one of my favorite pictures! I love both of the guys so much! I die over them!! We told him to show his mean face and his happy face. These are what we got. I swear my son is can give some dirty looks!

Thanks Sarah, you did such an amazing job!!!!

I am more creative in my own mind

Every year for Thanksgiving, I am in charge of bringing dessert to my in-laws. I usually make a strawberry cake with white frosting. It is from a box but for some reason it always comes out so good. This year, I was inspired to get really creative with my cake. I wanted to decorate it all pretty and cute. I was inspired by my friend, Jeanette, who make beautiful cakes and by Shawna, who always has these crazy and wild cakes. So I went down to Angels (a cake decorating supply store) and looked at some of the ones they had on display. I saw one that looked very simple and had a beautiful design to it. I thought, "How hard can this be?" I bought the bags to put frosting in and the fun tip designs and was excited to start my project! This morning I woke up, baked my cakes from the box (but they still taste delicious), cut the strawberries to put in the middles and then frosted my 2 layer cake with white cream cheese frosting (SO GOOD!!!!). Then the creativity began. I made my orange frosting and started my design just like in the store. I soon realize, that it was really difficult and I really am NOT good at designing cakes. It looked good in my head but when it came out, it was just okay. It wasn't until halfway through my design, I realized how to do the lines. So half of my cake, looks pretty good and the other half, just looks like scribbly lines. I, do however, think I did okay on the chocolate little flowers. Overall, I have come to realize my calling in life is not to be a cake designer. At least it tastes good and that is all that matters! This is the final outcome. Just keep in mind, this was my first time decorating a cake.

This whole process took me about 2 1/2 hours and while I was doing this, Sal was making the stuffing for the turkey. So Salvador, was playing really good and coming in every once in a while to see what we were doing and then off he would go. After about 10 minutes of silence from him, I had to figure he was up to no good. Now usually when I have this feeling, it is wrong. He is usually just reading a book or watching Sesame Street but this time was different. He had gotten into mine and Sal's room, found some gum, and proceeded to eat and swallow it, most of the paper included. I tried to get mad but it was so funny, I just laughed it off and told him that was a no-no and don't do it again (yeah like that is going to happen). Sal came in and gave him a high five! Just the look on his face (I wish I could have captured it on camera) was priceless and so cute, I just laughed it off. This was a horrible recreation for what I walked in on. I promise my son isn't high.

Nothing really

I noticed I haven't posted in a while because there is nothing really going on. I still work with hormonal teenagers everyday. I wanted to do a post about stupid things kids say but I need to get more! Trust me, they say some dumb things, things that are sometimes really dirty. Luckily, I can pretty much handle any type of gross, sexual, nasty comment. It is the dumb comments I can't handle. Oh, I know what I can talk about, NETFLIX!!! It is my new favorite website. Seriously, all of you need to join. I don't know about you but I am the WORST at returning movies on time. So I decided to join Netflix and now I absolutely love. I already rented Transformers (not a big fan of that movie, sorry rachel) and I returned that and now I have the movie Airplane (one of the funniest movies ever!) Any time I hear about some movie, I just go and add it to my list and then when I return my movie, they send me my next one! And the best part, is NO LATE FEES!!! Does anyone have good movies I could add to my list??? I pretty much like any type of movie, but especially comedy!

Girl's Night Out

Last night, I went out on a much needed girl's night out!!! It was Sarah, Megan, Shawna and myself. We went to get our toes and nails done and then went to Outback. It was a very interesting night full of lots of laughs, especially at the nail salon. Sarah made a new friend at the salon. This little girl was cracking us up because she kept showing off her underwear and talking to Sarah. After Sarah, she walked over to Megan and was showing off her toys and talking. We didn't know how to get rid of her. The purpose of this night was no kids. For more pictures and information on this, I am sure Sarah or Shawna will have more on this. This salon, I personally like their work but their decor is a little off. I wish I would have gotten a picture. The have no pictures on the wall except for a poster for the HBO movie "Big Love." I don't get it. After that, we headed over Outback for some food. What is a girl's night without food? It was delicious and I probably gained 100 pounds (so much for my diet. Luckily I ate good during the daytime). We had the funnest waitress and good times. We have decided to try to get together at least once a month. Kasey, WE MISS YOU!

No one told me

I love Halloween and it is Sal's favorite holiday. I love to decorate my house, I love the smell of pumpkin and most of all I love to see random people's costumes. Just a quick side note, why is it that Halloween brings out the inner prostitute in a lot of girls. When have you seen a police officer in black vinyl hot pants and a button down shirt with her breasts hanging out?? That is one part of Halloween I just don't get. Back to my issues. So this was my first Halloween when Sal could really enjoy trick or treating. (Unfortunately no pictures of that, I left my memory card at home). He was really good and even tried to walk into people's houses. We walked up to one house where they were watching sesame street in the background and when I tried to pull him away, he started screaming. But here is the issue, NO ONE TOLD ME HOW MUCH CANDY YOU GET!! I love candy but when you are trying to lose weight, it is your mortal enemy. When we got home, his little pumpkin was 3/4 full with candy and we only went around the block! I now see why parents don't like trick or treating. There is so much candy in my house but luckily my son hasn't figured out where it is (it is on my table in a grocery bag). I am glad he is still to small to enjoy candy but I know next year, he is going to so many cavities and I know I am going to gain 50 pounds just from all the candy. Sal's mom made him a bear costume for Halloween and I was supposed to be a tiger but again, I have never seen a prostitute tiger, so I dressed up as a hunter for our ward party and then was a nudist on strike for halloween (no creativity. I just didn't dress up.) My little lion and my big bear. All of us giving our best "roar". More random pictures for the night. Just so you know, my mother-in-law called herself, "Elecktra."

Being a Working Mom

I stayed home from work today to hang out with my son because I feel I have been neglectful. For those of you who don't know, I work full time at Paramount High School and part time as an online teacher for CAVA (California Virtual Academy). It has been a stressful month and an half and I felt that my son needed so mommy and me time. I just want to take time to commend all you working mothers. I know how hard it is and how mentally draining it can be. A couple of Fridays ago, I came home from work and just cried and cried because I hated my job (I now like it again but still feel my students aren't getting the best of me). I envy those moms who get to stay at home with the children. It was such a fun day to hang out with my boy. I know how hard it is to be a stay at home mom (i got to be one for 2 1/2 months is the summer) but I would so much rather be staying at home than going to work everyday. I know some stay at home moms sometimes wish to be in the work force but trust me, ENJOY STAYING AT HOME!!!! I guess the whole point of this blog was just to vent and commend everyone who is a mom and what a wonderful but difficult job we have. I know within the next couple of years, I will still be a working mom but will eventually be doing it from home. (I will quit full time and work at CAVA from home once Sal starts teaching). I can't wait for that day!!!!!

Disneyland...FINALLY!!!!!

So I finally took my son to Disneyland. I was having a bad day at work a couple of Fridays ago so Sal took the baby and me to Disneyland to get our passes. Let me tell you , this was HUGE!! Sal hates Disneyland but just to cheer me up, he went and got a pass so we could go. I never knew that Disneyland was so crowded on Friday nights. We only went on 2 rides and then went home. It took us like 30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. Well, I decided to take the day off from work today to take a mommy and son day. We went back to Disneyland and this time it wasn't too crowded. We had fun. He loved the rides and was intrigued by everything. We only stayed about 2 hours and that was perfect. I love living in Southern Cal just to be able to go to Disneyland and see the fun in my son's eyes. Now, I just hope my husband will eventually find that same excitement. This was Sal's first ride ever at Disneyland. Sal and Sal enjoying the carosel. This was from the time just Sal and I went. He was so happy to go on Dumbo. He loved it! Whoever said the teacups were fun?? We didn't even spin it and I still got dizzy. That is the lamest ride EVER!!! Also, Pinnochio is the scariest ride ever! I was afraid my son was going to scream half way through it but he did good. Aren't kids rides supposed to be light and happy???

I'm an aunt again!!! YEAH

My sister-in-law Genise finally gave birth to Austin James Gerken on Saturday night around 10:30 pm. He weighed 9lbs 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. He is so cute and had the cutest mouth. She was in labor for over 24 hours but only had to push for 52 minutes. Now, I have never had to push, but from what they say, that is pretty good for such a big baby! She and the baby are both doing really good and my brother couldn't stop smiling. They were both so excited and so exhausted. I can't wait for them to come home so I can go over and see my cute little nephew. I wish I would have taken more pictures but my camera died. UGHHH! Oh, and I just found out my sister is having a girl. That will bring her final count up to 3 girls and one boy! It is baby season in my family! Austin at one hour old.

The "Pudin" patch

I have been checking my friends' blogs everyday to see what they have posted. I get frustrated when they don't post everyday. But then I looked at my blog and realized I haven't posted since LAST sunday. I guess I can't get frustrated anymore. So last week, we went to the pumpkin patch (pudin as my son calls it) for family home evening. It was Sal, Salvador and me and my sister and her family and my brother and sister-in-law. Salvador had a ball. He usually is good about staying near by because he doesn't really like to be far from Sal and I but not in this case. He took off. He was so intrigued by the pumpkins, he didn't know how to act. Plus Kate was there, and he will follow her everywhere she goes. The first stop was the pony rides. The man put him on the pony and I have never seen my son have such a nervous breakdown. He was screaming and shaking and his face was turning red. The man was nice enough to allow me to hold his hand and walk around with him and the pony. Now if I was a good mom, I would have just taken my son off the pony and comforted him in his time of distress but of course I didn't. I made him stay on that pony and like it. (I had to give up 3 tickets which were 1.60 each. He was going to like it). Well, for the first 1 1/2 he had the death grip on my shirt, pleading "mama, mama" with tears streaming down his face. Then he realized it was fun and was waving and saying hi to all the people watching. I helped him get over his fear, so I guess that makes me a good mom again. After the pony rides, Kate and Sal went on the elephant ride and had such a blast. I swear if Kate ran into oncoming traffic, so would my son. HE IDOLIZES HER!!! Then they went on the train, which he loves and didn't want to get off. Finally, we had to stop by those stupid things were you put your face in it and the body is something lame. Yeah, you just can't pass those up. I am thinking Christmas card, considering we all look half way decent! Overall, it was a fun night. I am glad my brother and Genise showed up considering Genise was a full 9 months pregnant and was 3 days away from her due date. I love that Salvador is at that age now where he can have fun and show off his cute personality. It was also fun to run into Sarah and her family. Her girls are so cute. I can't seem to upload the rest of the pictures, this seems to be it. I try a little later!

I hate stuffed animals!

So I have never washed stuffed animals before. I am sure many of you are thinking how disgusting and what a bad mother but my son doesn't really play with them. Anyway, last night he peed in his bed and some of his animals in there smelled like pee so I decided to hand wash them. What a pain in the butt! Does anyone else feel my pain? You have to scrub and scrub and scrub and it still doesn't seem to get the soap out. And to top it all off, I swear my hands are going to fall off or be permantely cramped up because of trying to squeeze out all of the water! Either my son will never have any more stuffed animals or they will just be dirty because that was a pain! Do you guys wash the stuffed animals?

Megan Hess Rocks!!!

About a week and a half ago, I went to the best hair dresser ever to have my hair died back to blonde. Because I have been brown for so long, Megan was afraid that if I went completely blonde, that my hair would be damaged. So she only did a partial highlight, but it is pretty blonde and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! Plus she cut off about 3 inches and now my hair is back to being pretty again! Everyone should go and see Megan when they want to get their hair done! They WILL NOT be disappointed. Don't look at the mess in thebackground.

My Hero!!!!!!!

I don't know how many of you know, but I HATE TO CLEAN! I was not programmed to be a neat freak or have my house so spotless that you are afraid to sit down. I try my best. My house isn't disgusting but lets just say clutter. Anyway, I have been pretty good about doing dishes.

Then Thursday happened. I made this casserole thing and put the middle stuff that comes in bell peppers down the garbage disposal and next thing I know, my sink is coughing up water and chunks of old food. NASTY!!!!! So it began. I waited and waited for the water to go down but nothing. So i got the plunger and used all the muscles in my body and NOTHING! So I went and got the liquid plumber and tried that! Again, nothing. Sal came in, used all his muscles and still nasty, chunky water. Well, my sink stayed like this for 2 days! My kitchen was disgusting! I couldn't do dishes and they were starting to pile up. This is my kitchen before my hero steps in.

So on Saturday, after having a nasty clogged sink, I went to Home Depot, bought a snake and a new plunger. I came home and Sal began his magic. He was frustated that the snake wasn't working. So he decided to plunge it one more time before we went to our landlord. This time he used our new plunger and VOILA, our sink was unclogged. Little did I know, all I had to do was spend 5.00 dollars and I could have had a nice kitchen on Thursday. Instead, I had to wait until Saturday and a sink full of nasty dishes. But thanks to handyman Sal, I now can do dishes and live in a house with a clean kitchen. Thanks Sal, you're my hero!!!! Unfotunately, Sal splashed some of the Liquid plumber on his shirt and now it is permanetly stained. For saving my sanity, I will have to go buy him a new shirt but I really liked this one and so did he.

A few of my favorite things

I copied the titled from someone else's blog but I don't remember who.

1. Cool autumn nights. I love that is finally starting to cool down because now I can enjoy sitting in my non-air conditioned house and not be sweating my face off. I also love seeing my son in winter pajamas. I love the footed pajamas and the slippers. It makes me feel that my toddler son is still my little baby.

2. Prayer time. Salvador is so good about folding his arms during prayer time and when we are done, instead of saying amen he says all done. So I thought I would try to capture the moment of him during prayer. So I partially folded my arms, held the camera at the right angle and closed my eyes and began to pray (maybe I should have taken prayer time more serious, because I think God was probably laughing at me for trying to take a picture during a sacred moment.) Here is what I got. Remember, he is usually really still but he just got new slippers and was more intrigued by them. Notice the partially folded arms!

3. Flowers. I love getting flowers from Sal. I came home from work and he greeted me at the door with the beautiful roses. It was a great surprise because it just happened to be a really stressful day at work. I don't know how many of you know but I started working with an online high school, so I currently have 2 jobs. Luckily, I can do one at home after my son goes to sleep and during my lunch break. I am doing this because once Sal finishes school, I plan to stay at home and do the online thing full time(hopefully). But because I am new to the online thing, I have been a little stressed for the past couple of weeks (I am feeling better now) and to come home, after a day of working with hormonal and moody teenagers and trying to figure out this online thing, to flowers, really just made my day. Thanks honey! You're the best!
